| Whether
underserved by an incumbent provider, or simply seeking to
create a fertile networking infrastructure as a base for economic
development, municipalities are deploying fiber-based access
systems to interconnect their community’s buildings,
rural-based offices, factories, schools, hospitals, and homes
with up to 100 Mbps to carry voice, data, and video based
services. |

Amedia Networks offers
a litany of benefits for a community deploying a FTTP access
network:
- Fully open Access Platform: Our Ethernet
Switched Optical Network (ESON) solution enables a fully
open access platform. With our unique capability
to manage the characteristics of each individual VLAN, a large
number of geographically disbursed service providers can
specify the performance parameters that they need to guarantee
service levels to their consumers via the municipality
network for each and every service or application.
- Turn-key Solution: Amedia works closely
with engineers and consultants that municipalities can
retain to provide a comprehensive turn-key solution.
Program Management, a Network Operations Center, Equipment
Installation Services, Fiber Selection and Installation,
Training … Amedia brings together all of the pieces
to turn on the flow of triple play services.
- Inside Wiring: Amedia has multiple
solutions for inside wiring. The PG1000 Premises
Gateway supports both “tip and ring” copper
interfaces, 100BASE-Tx LAN interfaces, 802.11 wireless
access points, and will support a coax-based wiring paradigm.
This flexibility can minimize the barriers (and costs)
to home or business owners associated with the adoption
of advanced services.
- IP-based Video: Municipalities contemplating
the offering of triple play services are increasingly
turning to IP-based video. A rapidly growing industry
is developing to provide a flexible source for standard
and high definition TV, VoD, and other 2-way video services.
Amedia’s ESON solution is a pure standards-based
Ethernet solution and is the optimal choice to
support IP-based video.
- Lowest Cost Solution: Because the
Amedia solution is standards-based Ethernet, it enjoys
the rapidly declining cost curve that is the character
of mass market consumer electronics. And given the extraordinary
range of distances available with our solution
(50km northbound from the AS500, and over 40km southbound
to the PG1000) there is a significant amount of flexibility
in how to deploy the network to minimize cabling costs.
This generally translates into the lowest cost solution.
There is no need to increase taxes or charge high rates
for service in order to provide community information
infrastructure.
- A Truly Hardened Outdoor Premises Gateway Product:
The PG1000 is available in an environmentally
hardened outdoor enclosure that provides separate, lock-secured
access for craft, as well as access for subscribers, and
includes a back-up battery, built-in charger, and environmental
alarms It is engineered to operate within -40°C to
65°C (-40°F to 149°F)
