From
a single remote seat, via a point-and-click Graphical User
Interface, an operator can efficiently manage all critical
and routine operations of the
QoStream™ product family via the QoStream Director. |

The QoStream Director provides element
and network management functions2 including
fault isolation, configuration, inventory and accounting
management. The Director interfaces with QoStream AS5000, and PG1000 network elements using unique IP
addresses and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
The Network Operations Center (NOC) craft interface
is a point-and-click Graphical User Interface. In addition,
security, user authentication, |
provisioning and software downloads are provided to ensure complete and accurate delivery
of services and applications. The QoStream Director
supports an Open Service Architecture framework; content
and service providers are independent from transport
providers.
- SNMP southbound, Common Object Request Broker Architecture
(CORBA) and SNMP northbound
- In-service Software downloads
- The QoStream Director incorporates all of the expected
facets of Element and Network Management commonly referred
to as FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance,
and Security) as well as Topology and Resource Management.
- Automatic fault sectionalization and fault recovery
: The QoStream Director correlates fault information from
the network elements isolates the faults, and maps to
a single network element or fiber and presented to the
craft interface.
- Fast provisioning and rearrangement: The Configuration
Manager records configurations and addresses for all network
elements and the network configuration, including equipment
and service provisioning or rearrangement.
- The Accounting Manager prepares billing records based
on time stamps of per-usage service requests and service
setups/releases, formats the requests in a billing record,
and passes the billing records to the billing system or
Customer Services Manager.
- The Performance Manager reports and maintains history
for network performance data of network connections, including
Cyclic Resundancy Check (CRC) thresholds exceeded and
dropped packet performance.
- The Security Manager authenticates and controls QoStream
Director and network element SERVICE port user access
to network resources.
- The Topology Manager auto-discovers the network physical
topology and displays both physical and logical topology
on the GUI.
- The Resource Manager maintains a database (inventory)
of provisioned equipment and network resources for provisioning,
rearrangement, and restoration functions of the Configuration
Manager.
